All three of us have used and ranked this spyware blocker. Each of us independently reviewed this software and each of us ranked it as one of the top spyware and adware removers on the market for several reasons.
We really enjoyed the ease of installation. It was very quick and easy. We just followed a configuration wizard that walked us through the basic settings options for the program. Like we mentioned on our Best Free Antispyware page, many programs require Windows Defender to be disabled and CounterSpy is one of them.
Another nice feature of this spyware remover was the customizable option that lets you specify which areas of your computer are scanned and what the scan is looking for. The software also has some nice bonuses. These include a file eraser, history cleaner and PC Explorer Tool. The Explorer Tool is cool because it provides quick access to system information like running processes, hosts file, LSPs, Downloaded ActiveX controls, start-up programs, and browser helper objects (when bad, they’re called browser hijackers).
Like most spyware removers this software thoroughly checks the Windows registry, running processes, web browser cookies and plug-ins, essential system components, all files and folders on local hard drives. It also offers the Quick Scan, Full System Scan, and configurable scan of user-defined locations.
CounterSpy also proved to perform fast scan without using a lot of resources. Overall the scans were a bit faster than other comparable adware removers but not the type of instant satisfaction. We also liked the fact that you have endless options for customizing the area of your scan and how the scan works.
With this antispyware being smooth, quick scanning, comprehensive logging, having added bonuses, well organized settings, being user friendly the fully functioning 15-day trial is one of the best we have seen!
